What is a Tooth Extraction?

Tooth Extraction is the process of pulling a tooth from the socket of teeth. Tooth Extraction can be mandatory for many reasons, such as severe tooth damage or decay, shaking tooth due to periodontal issues, a stand-alone tooth that is present in the line of denture construction, teeth associated with any cysts or benign tumours, wisdom teeth which are impacted (not completely erupted in mouth), teeth which are fractured, teeth which comes in the line of a fractured jaw, before radiotherapy in cases of jaw cancers, over-retained deciduous teeth (milk teeth), teeth in the line of orthodontic treatment, etc.  Removing the visible tooth is simple tooth extraction, but the tooth that is broken below the surface and/or impacted requires a more involved procedure of Tooth Extraction.

What is the procedure for Wisdom Tooth Extraction?

Wisdom Tooth Extraction is a procedure to remove one or more wisdom teeth located in the back corner of the mouth. It usually appears between the age of 17 to 25. In this procedure, the dentist will extract the said tooth through a minor surgical procedure.

Usually, the treatment of Tooth Extraction takes between 20-40 minutes, but it may take longer depending on the procedure.

What to avoid after Tooth Extraction?

You should consume liquid and semi-liquid food for 24 hours after Tooth Extraction. You can ease into a regular diet when you feel comfortable or as the dentist suggests. Try And avoid these things for quick recovery.

  1. Do not smoke because smoking may break down the blood clot.
  2. Do not drink alcohol and beverages
  3. Avoid drinking from a straw in the First 24 hours after the Tooth Extraction

How to take care of your teeth after Tooth Extraction?

To clean the area of tooth extraction, gently rinse your mouth with an antibacterial mouthwash twice or three times after the first day of the extraction. Take all medications as directed and recommended by the dentist.

  1. Place ice on the cheek near the extraction site.
  2. Avoid any tasks that need liftings heavy objects because this can increase blood pressure and lead to bleeding at the surgical site
  3. Gauze pack should be left in place for about 30 mins.
